TurboSnail recce at Batu Kawan

By Turbo Snail.

I have been hearing about the new extension of the available trail in Batu Kawan for quite some time.  I also have been planning to pay this new extension a visit but it never took place until recently.  Ong had mentioned that there was a new double track cut thru the back hill of Batu Kawan by PDC (Someone told me that PDC is planning to turn the foothill into Bungalow lots.  The double track will eventually become tar road in the near future. Sad, isn't it?).  The ride would take about one and the half hours to finish the whole loop that included usual Celcom Tower climb and the usual back hill downhill.

Since Fatt and I were not able to go for the Sedim ride due to family commitments, we decided to have a spin in the afternoon.

We met at the foothill of Telekom tower at 1645hours and took us 20 minutes to reach the peak, 5 minutes more than what we used to during our peak form. After a short break, we continued our journey to try the new trail.

It was a double track reopened by Ong and his crews.  The trail is typically Batu Kawan, which is steep and muddy (Sorry, no rock gardens to test your Romic or 5th-Element!).  Along the way, we encountered two giant spiders (can you imagine that those thing can grow to six inches from leg to leg??) that really freaked me out.  I nearly turned back when we saw the second one that weaved it's net across the trail. Like a frighten kid, I had to be escorted by Fatt to go through the net. Oh man, the half an inch fangs were just inches away from my face!

We continued after the spiders encounter.  There were a lot of fallen tree along the way.  We had to hop over the fallen trees in order to continue our journey.  The trail remained muddy thanks to the rain a night before.

We finally met the junction which connected the new extension to the existing trail at the back hill of Batu Kawan.  Fatt decided to call it quit since the sky was getting darker.  But I did not want to give it up yet.  So I proposed to check out the trail by bypassing the back hill and using the tar road that surrounding the foothill of Batu Kawan.

The new trail is nicely connected to the end of the back hill trail at the Chinese cemetery.  This is a wide double-track with moderate climb.  Fatt and I only managed to check out the trail head but we planned to come back again maybe during the X'Mas holiday.

I will keep you guys posted on our second visit to the same trail again.

to be continued......
